After a representative of the Early Career landscape ecology researcher became a member of the EC, IALE-Europe also launched a new Working Group aiming to connect and empower early career landscape ecologists in Europe and beyond, such as students, PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers. The WG will provide a supportive environment for individuals who are navigating the early phases of their scientific careers. This WG serves as a networking platform fostering connections among peers with similar interests and, hopefully, stimulating scientific collaborations and sharing opportunities. The group emphasises professional development through workshops, seminars, and discussions.

How to prepare for an academic job interview
Wednesday 13 March 2024, 16:00 – 17:00 CET
Jasper van Vliet – Associate Professor of Land Use and Urban Development at the Institute for Environmental Studies, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (The Netherlands)
In his research he aims to better understand land use change and urban development processes and their consequences at scales ranging from local to global. The multi-scale approach underlying his research builds on a range of methodological approaches, including case studies, systematic reviews, spatial analysis, and land use modelling. His current work focusses on food systems and the role of human settlements in land use change.
Veerle Van Eetvelde – Professor of Landscape Research at Department of Geography, Gent University (Belgium)
She is a geographer and spatial planner whose research areas include landscape ecology, landscape preference, historical geography, landscape and heritage management, and planning. In her latest work she has explored the role of social theories in development of landscape science and research. She holds the position of President of the European chapter of the International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE-Europe).

Dr. Liliana Solé is a geographer. In October 2019, she completed her PhD at the Geography Department of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Her research projects are characterized by the integration of social and ecological science disciplines to provide a holistic understanding of coastal socio-ecological systems and ecosystem services. Furthermore, her projects aim to combine different methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative, with special attention to participatory mapping methodologies. She has built her research and teaching career in various European research centres and universities, including the University of Turku (Finland), the Alfred Wegener Institute (Germany), the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) in Spain.

Casting a Line to the Land: Narratologies of Embodied Rituals and Connectivity to Place
Wednesday 13 December 2023 16:00-17:00 CET
Zoe Latham – Lecturer at Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business, University of Plymouth.
Dr Zoe Latham is lecturer and researcher with a background in architectural practice. Her recently completed PhD argues for a re-conceptualisation and extension of place theory within architectural praxis, examining the alignment between place and ritual theory as a way to better understand phenomenon that inform a greater connectivity between embodied, situated and meaningful experiences with the environment. This ritualized connection extends beyond mere doing and evokes cultivation of a deeper sensibility of and towards place.
